The Fantastic Four Lands in Philly this Month!

The 6th national conference and 10th anniversary celebration of the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) will be held July 22-25th in Philadelphia. It’s a PD event not to be missed. For the sake of full disclosure, it’s important to mention that I currently serve on the NAMLE Board of Directors (1st Vice President) and I am also the 2011 Conference Program Chair. Notwithstanding my vantage point, I can assure you that this will be the most illuminating and entertaining conference you will attend.

We strategically selected our site as Philadelphia—centerpiece of an early American history of independence, freedom and brotherly love. This year, you’ll hear a chorus of voices from around the world that includes seasoned professionals, empowered students, non-native English speakers, rigorous researchers and skillful practitioners. Four keynote addresses provide an eclectic mix of academic, multicultural, public health and feminist perspectives that will inspire and renew your media literacy education efforts—whether you’re a P-12 teacher, community activist or media producer. Just look at this incredible line-up of individual keynotes:

We offer media and technology demonstrations, program highlights, expert panel discussions, roundtable discussions, digital poster sessions, best pedagogical practices, a youth production camp, award-winning research and author book signings with free give-aways from the NAMLE Marketplace. You’ll also be able to use namle.net during and after the conference to navigate sessions, paper summaries, interactive presentations and handouts. The conference experience will also culminate in a special conference issue of the Journal of Media Literacy Education.

Whether you are new or familiar with the field of media literacy education, I invite you download the Core Principles of Media Literacy Education as your global positioning system and to seize every opportunity at NAMLE 2011 to locate your place on the media literacy education map.
