In March I had the pleasure of attending the International Family Film Festival at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, CA to moderate a panel of educators and film makers on the topic, “Media literacy: Is it ‘good’ for us?” I was particularly intrigued by the stories of how young people in Kenya use film to empower themselves and their communities. Thanks to Mercy, Dain and Patrick for a lively discussion—and for their inspiring examples of media literacy education. A special thanks to Chris and Suzanne Shoemaker who invited me to serve on the IFFF Advisory Board. Here’s to creating a more media literate world—one film at a time.
