While the state of New Jersey may be known for the Turnpike, the Sopranos, and the Jersey Shore, there is a small yet brilliant diamond in the rough that we put on display for all to see at the opening reception of the NAMLE 2011 Conference in Philly on July 22nd. As NAMLE 1st Vice President and this year’s Program Chair I was incredibly honored to present the Media Literate Media Award to Voices of Hope Productions, a woman-owned creative services and multimedia production company dedicated to creative and community-based social issues and documentary film-making as a means to educate, engage, empower an entertain while fostering leadership, citizenship and inspiration in adults & youth to make a difference in our society. Their work speaks for itself. It is authentic, altruistic, and the actual purpose of media literacy education. I hope more people catch their vision.
