Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) can facilitate, even transform, teachers’ understanding of their subject area and pedagogy. At a recent professional development workshop (Classroom Reset 2010: Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference) Vanessa Domine explored with high school teachers the characteristics of a successful professional learning community. The group explored free social networking tools made especially for educators to keep content and collaboration as the main focus. Participants established their own community and gained strategies for growth and maintenance. [download handout]
